Organize Your Life With Shelves

Shelves have been a fixture in houses for many years. Whatever happens, they never lose their appeal. You may wish to install shelving for many reasons. Here are some that you may not have thought about.



Saving space may be the best reason to put shelving up. Your garage may have too many things in it, at present. Consider a simple shelf or two. You might already own the material for your shelving. Look around your garage. You might search your local home improvement center or lumberyard for wood. You may not be good at making shelving. There are others things that you might do.



There are many stand alone shelving units that can be purchased. They are not too expensive. They will not be too difficult to assemble. It will give you a chance to clear some of the clutter in your garage.



Do you need to organize things in the garage? A few shelving units will help simplify things. Wooden shelving is not difficult to add to. Make a layer up high. Use it for seasonal items. Also put seldom used things up there.



Is your bedroom crowded and unorganized? Shelving can make a big difference. For bedrooms, use a nice grade of wood. In garages, plain wood is fine. In your bedroom, use wood that you can stain and finish. Pick wood with nice grain patterns. You can use dark or light wood.



There will be a wood that will match your bedroom colors. The right stain can make a perfect match. It does not cost much to use pine. It can be stained to many shades. Do you like a richer color with nice grain patterns? Consider walnut wood. Place your bedroom shelving so it is not in the way. It may need to be higher than standard shelving. You can make the shelving wrap around your bedroom.



Do not forget living rooms. Shelving will come in handy. You may have very little available space. Built in shelving will fit in. It may take some work, however. You will save a great deal of space. Interior walls are best for this. Your exterior walls will not have available space.



Are you considering built in shelving. Check your walls. Some walls may have a lot space between them. It depends on the house. Be very careful with support studs. You can make wide shelving by hiding the studs. Place paneling or other wood around them. Of course, it will be much easier to install stand alone shelving units.



Built in shelving can be a tricky project. You may need to tear into walls. Make sure that you know as much as you can about it. You may need to check online resources. Check at your local library. Consider hiring a professional. Most will give you a cost estimate.
